Excited about the release of Cinema 4D r13. This release boasts robust character animation tools that have been a longtime coming. the release will boast a new "character object" which features an autorigging tool that boasts rigging support for bipeds and quadropeds as well as insects and birds. The feature also comes with what Maxon is calling "smart" weighting as well which theoretical should have a character rigged and skinned in a few minutes. This is also coupled with a procedural walk cycle tool that seems to have a robust keyframeless workflow. I am still not sure if you can breakdown the animation into keyframes in order to refine.... that'd be great.
They have also upped the game on the advanced renderer by including a new skin shader as well as a side physics based renderer for creating realistic renders. All these features are set to make them a very serious competitor outside of the motion graphic market.
I intend to start building assets for training as well to hit the ground running as soon as the official version goes live! I cant wait for the new power of r13 to be given to us! LOL!
